Skype receiving a complete design overhaul - IT Services in Los Angeles

No-one says “Skype me” anymore. Microsoft’s giving it a big refresh to make it faster and more reliable. Does your business still use Skype, or do you stick with Teams or Zoom?

Microsoft has revealed that Skype is getting a major redesign.

It may not be the dominant player it once was (remember when ‘Skype’ was synonymous with video calling), but it is still widely used. So much so that Microsoft is attempting yet another sub-brand refresh.

Microsoft admits the app’s past flaws before promising a “improved, faster, more reliable, and super modern-looking Skype” in the coming months.

This will include a new call stage with new layouts and themes. The call stage now shows everyone in the call, even if they don’t have video. Those who only share audio will get new colorful themes.

The new Skype will also have better performance. Microsoft claims this has been increased by up to 30% on desktop and up to 2,000% on Android.

Aside from these visual and performance improvements, Skype has promised to support all web browsers. It also adds TwinCam, which lets you use your smartphone as a secondary camera to capture new angles, pets, and more.

What if you don’t like the Skype notification sound? The team is finally letting you change those annoying bleeps.

Microsoft will be rolling out these and other Skype updates over the coming months.
